Day two (Saturday) of the Kerry Group Ras Mumhan and we have a new race leader. Sean McKenna representing the Irish Cycling Development outfit has gone top of the leader board after stage two of the event which covered in excess of 144kms of racing in counties Cork and Kerry.
With a start and finish in Kenmare which included the infamous Healy Pass. The action started immediately from the drop of the starting flag. Six were represented in the lead group which included Dylan Foley of Irish Cycling Development who was first across the finishing in the town of Kenmare.
On accumulated time McKenna leads the race by one second from former winner of the event in 2011, Sean Lacey. Both were also involved in the break on the first day of the event. Overnight leader of the event Cathal Moynihan of Tralee Manor West BC dropped out of contention coming in over five minutes in arrears of the stage winner.
Both McKenna and Foley are students and on today’s evidence certainly know how to crunch numbers when it comes to succeeding at bike racing.
